Edward L. Michalski

Edward L. Michalski, 77 of Grand Island, died Friday – July 21, 2006 at his home.

Edward MichalskiServices will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.  The Reverend Richard Maciejewski will officiate.  Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.  The Ft. Riley Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Visitation will be from 3-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Michalski was born April 15, 1929 at Loup City the son of Walter and Elizabeth (McCarville) Michalski.  Edward was raised on the family farm near Loup City receiving his education in Loup City.  He entered the United States Marine Corp on December 6, 1950 serving during the Korean War having received the Purple Heart.  He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1953.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Smith on March 12, 1955 at Albion, NE.  They lived for many years in Grand Island, where he worked for GW Martin Company and later Nash Finch for over 30 years.  They retired in 1992 and moved to Johnson Lake.  He returned to Grand Island in December 2003.

His wife Sharon preceded him in death July 7, 1997.

Those left to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, Lindsay and Donna Michalski of Battle Creek, NE, daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Bob Hopkins of Phillips, NE, Michelle and Gary Lindsley of Wolbach, NE, and Lisa and Chad Rathman of Wood River, NE, sisters, Lillian Sullivan of Davenport, Iowa, Loretta Findley of Mesa, Arizona 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Ann Michalski of Omaha.

He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche, Eagles, and Elks and enjoyed fishing.

His wife, and daughter, Tami, his parents, and two sisters, Claire and Esther and a brother, Danny preceded him in death. 

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
