“Bob” Robert
W. Edgar, 79, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at his home in Grand Island.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian
Church in Grand Island. The
Reverend Cheryl Lamb will officiate. Inurnment will be in the
First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 3 to 6:00
p.m. Wednesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home.
Bob was born October 12, 1927 at Morning Sun, IA the
son of Lloyd and Helena (Reid) Edgar. He attended and graduated from
the Morning Sun High School in
1945. From September 1946 until March 1948 he served with the
United States Army in Korea. He
graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania in 1952.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Margaret
Long on June 25, 1955 at Beaver Falls, PA.Bob worked for Firestone as a plant engineer in Ohio and Indiana plants from 1952-1961. In 1961
he joined the Sheller-Globe Corporation and worked in the Montpelier, Portland and Grabill, Indiana plants until 1978. In 1978 he
moved to Grand Island and
worked for Leon Plastics in Alda until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, camping and traveling. He
was a member of the Presbyterian Church and held all the Lay offices
in his lifetime. He volunteered for Grand Island Area Habitat
for Humanity and was a Boy Scout Leader from 1966-1983. For
10 years he cooked for the ham and bean supper to benefit the PTA
of General Shanks Elementary in Portland, Indiana. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with
family and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Margaret,
sons and daughters-in-law, Bob Edgar of Lincoln, Bill Edgar and his
wife Martha Hakenkamp of Lincoln and Brad and Deonna Edgar of Hastings,
NE, daughter Rebecca Knee of Bellevue, NE, brothers James Edgar of
Roseville, CA and David Edgar of Norman, OK, a sister-in-law Jean
Edgar of St. Louis, MO and grandchildren, Emilie Corbin, Ruth Edgar,
Ethan Edgar, Cohen Edgar, Baxter Knee and Dairien Edgar.
His also is survived by his beloved cats, patches,
and klondike.
His parents and a brother Sam Edgar preceded him in death.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church,
Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity or St. Francis Hospice.
