Alfred L. Grubbs
“Al” Alfred
L. Grubbs, 79, of Grand Island,
died Monday, September 3, 2007 at home following a long battle with pulmonary
fibrosis.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s
Cathedral. The Reverend Tim Stoner will officiate. Burial
will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday with a parish
rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Al was born December 13, 1927 at Dunsmuir, California the son of Alfred W. and Eva (Sims)
Grubbs. He was raised and received his education in Grand Island. He entered
the United States Navy in March of 1945 serving in the Pacific in
Guam and the Eniwetok area on the
USS Atlas ARL-7. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Ulrich. They
made their home in Grand
Island where Al was employed for the Geer
Company from 1946-1962. He then went to work for Lacy Building and Supply Company in 1962, retiring
in 1993. His wife Patricia died January 5, 1990. Al married
Diane (Carraher) Robinson on October 3, 1992 at Grand Island.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Diane;
sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven and Arlene Grubbs of Grand Island
and Gary Grubbs of Omaha; a daughter Diane Schmidt of Omaha; stepson
and his wife, Jerald and Laura Robinson of Grand Island; stepdaughters
and their spouses, Jean and Mike Wilson of Grand Island, Joan and
John Fisher of California, Jane and Ron Reed of Lincoln, NE, Janet
and Rex Peterson of Lincoln, NE, Julie Knuth of Grand Island, Jackie
and Troy Foster of Lincoln, NE and Joy and Reed Weir of Lusby, MD;
a brother and sister-in-law; “Lavern” Glen and Jan Grubbs
of Grand Island; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor Harrison
of Grand Island, Betty and Cecil Stoner of Grand Island, Arlene and
Bob Miller of North Platte and twenty-one grandchildren and three
great grandchildren.
His first wife Patricia and son Ronald preceded him in
death.
He is a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, American
Legion, Platt Duetsche, Saddle Club, past president of the Liederkranz
and past president of the GI Jaycees. Al enjoyed playing golf,
cards and traveling.
Memorials are suggested to either St. Mary’s Cathedral Square or
the donor’s choice.
