Karmen
J. Puente, 40, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at the University
of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The
Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island
Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mrs. Puente was born Sept. 11, 1967, at Grand Island.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Thomas Puente; two daughters,
Leikyn Puente and Micaela Puente; a son, Jackson Puente; her parents, Linda and
Darrel Olson of Grand Island; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Denean Olson
and Tara and Elijah Johnson, all of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law,
Chad and Jamie Olson of Grand Island.
Those also left to cherish her memory are grandmother, Melva Jean Larsen of Grand
Island; her mother-in-law, Mary Puente; brothers-in-law, Rodney Puente, Scotty
Puente, and Pat and his wife, Jennifer Puente; sister-in-law, Lori and her husband,
Enrique Corral; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Her father-in-law, Thomas Puente and grandparents, Edwin Larsen, Virgil and Lena
Olson, preceded her in death.
Karmen grew up in Grand Island, where she graduated from Grand Island Senior
High, class of 1985. She was united in marriage to Thomas Puente on Nov. 9, 1986,
at Long Beach, Calif. While her husband served in the United States Navy, they
lived in Long Beach for four years and Oak Harbor, Wash., before moving back
to Grand Island in 1993.
Karmen was a wife, mother and friend to many. She was heavily involved with her
children's activities and sports. She loved going to the Nebraska Husker games
and tailgating. She had a Big Heart and would do anything for you and would always
put others first. She was strong, knowledgeable and organized. She helped organize
the annual Third City Steak Feed and Booster Club auctions.
Her memberships include Trinity United Methodist Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary
and Grand Island Senior High Booster Club. She operated Bottles and Britches
as a Licensed Day Care Provider. She worked at the Veterans Hospital, the VFW
Club and worked for her parents' family business. She loved collecting birdhouses
and Americana items.
A memorial fund will be established in her name.
