Elsie M. Schimmer

Elsie M. Schimmer, 87, of Grand Island, died Monday March 19, 2007 at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.  The Reverend William Pavuk will officiate.  Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Elsie was born October 23, 1919 at Grand Island the daughter of Julius and Emma (Muhs) Gutschow. Elsie was raised on the family farm southwest of Grand Island, receiving her education at Hall County District 66 and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1938.  She was united in marriage to Maynard Schimmer on February 4, 1942 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.  They continued to farm all their married life together.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.  She served as past president of St. Pauls Women of the ELCA and member of the Anna circle.  She was a charter member of Literacy program in Nebraska, past 4 H leader, member of Leadership Tomorrow, was active in lay ministry of St. Pauls Lutheran, active in Nebraska Cattle Women’s Association, and the Platt-Duetsche Auxiliary. 

Her husband Maynard died November 27, 2000.

Survivors are and son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Karen Schimmer of Grand Island, and daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert Worrall of Fair Oaks, Texas.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Jeff and Cindy Schimmer, Tyson and Annette Schimmer, Traci and Erin Romans, Rhonda and Pat Munnerlyn, Wendy and Matt Garabedian and Robert Worrall and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, her parents and a sister Lorrane Headrick preceded her in death. 

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
