"Diamond Jim" Semm
James
(Diamond Jim) Semm, 75, of Grand Island,
formerly of North Platte,
died Friday, April 13, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths
Funeral Home in Grand Island. The
Reverend Randy Fett will officiate. Burial of ashes will be
in the Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from
3-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Semm was born May 22, 1931 at Grand Island the son of
Charles and Elizabeth (Parker) Semm.
Survivors are son and daughter-in-law Michael and Linda
Semm of Grand Island, daughter and son-in-law Julie and Douglas Emery
of Grand Island, step children Karen Honeycutt of North Platte and
Larry and his wife Marlene McDonald of Palm Coast, FL, brother Robert
Semm of Lincoln, sister Eldora Speck of Grand Island and sisters-in-law
Ruth Semm of Lincoln and Maxine Sems of Alda.
Those also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren,
Tory Semm, Nicole Mowrey, Cody Semm, Scott Emery, Sean Emery and
step granddaughter Tammy Orwig and eight great grandchildren.
He was raised and received his education in Grand Island. He married
Virginia Gustin January 28, 1950. They lived in Grand
Island before moving to Columbus for
eight years, then returning to Grand
Island. Mr. Semm moved to North Platte in 1968 where he worked for Union
Pacific Railroad as a machinist retiring in 1996. He married
Ida (Joann) McDonald March 25, 1968 in Yankton, SD.
Following the death of his wife Joann in 2003, Mr. Semm
moved to Grand Island to
be close to his children. He worked as a Wal-Mart greeter in North
Platte for five years and Grand Island North
Wal-Mart until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in North Platte obtaining the pilgrim degree, North Platte
Elks, Eagles and the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island. He enjoyed yodeling, singing,
socializing with family and friends, watching classic movies, horse
racing, reading, husker football and spending time with grandkids.
In addition to his wife Joann, his parents, brothers
Leo, Wilber, Darrow and Ronald and a sister Gwen preceded him in
death.
