Barbara J. Shottenkirk

Barbara J. Shottenkirk, 71, of Loup City, died Saturday November 24, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.  The Reverend Barbara Spangler will officiate.  Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Barbara was born August 24, 1936 at Grand Island, NE the daughter of John and Hazel (Reed) Pokorney.

Her husband William “Jack” Shottenkirk preceded her in death December 21, 2005. 

Survivors are children and their spouses, Janis Meyer of Loup City, William, Jr. and Vicki Shottenkirk of Grand Island, Jerry and Marcia Shottenkirk of Oklahoma City, OK, Steve and Lillie Shottenkirk of Jones, OK and Tom and Lourie Shottenkirk of Lincoln, NE and sisters, Bonnie Brown of Omaha, Rosie Kallos of Grand Island, Janie Griffith of Aurora, Cathy Jones of Iowa, Mary Berstler of San Diego, CA, Carol Mason of Lincoln, NE and brother Mike Pokorney of Doniphan.

Those also left to cherish her memory are twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, her parents, sisters, Joan and June and brothers, John and James Pokorney preceded her in death.

Barbara was raised in Grand Island and received her education at St. Mary’s Catholic School.  She was united in marriage to William “Jack” Shottenkirk on October 3, 1953 in Central City.  She worked at the Egg Plant, Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, the Liederkranz and Jane’s Restaurant at Rockville.

She is a member of the United Methodist Church in Loup City.  She enjoyed horse racing, Nebraska sports, and she was a state tournament bowler during the 70’s and 80’s.
