Leland
H. Smiley, 77, of Grand Island died
Thursday, November 29, 2007, at his home.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral
Home. There will be no visitation. Full military honors
will be provided by the Army National Guard.
Leland was born April 4, 1930, at Deer Trail, Colorado to David and Myrtle (Forehand) Smiley.
He was raised and received his education in Colorado and Missouri. He entered the United States
Army 1948, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the
military on May 31, 1970.
Leland and Beverly (Sutherland) were united in marriage
on June 14, 1984, at Lakewood, CO. He
was employed by Regional Transportation District in Denver, CO, retiring in 1990. In 1998 they
made their home in Grand
Island.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Colorado and the Shriners. Leland
enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. Leland Smiley was
known as “Laughing Happy Smiley.”
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Beverly;
children and their spouses, Larry and Jill Smiley of Kidder, MO,
Jerry and Sheri Lair of Newburg, MO, Jesse Lair of Englewood, CO,
and Teresa Ward of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn
and Lola Smiley of Lakewood, CO, sister, Carol Lee Morgan of Lakewood,
CO and nine grandchildren, Levi Smiley, Kaylee Smiley, Salena Smiley,
Devin Lair, Breanna Lair, Jerrica Lair, Tyler Stump, Kianna Ward
and Kayla Ward.
His parents preceded him in death.
