Clark Allen Spanel

Clark Allen Spanel, 25, of Hastings, formerly of Grand Island, died on July 24, 2007 as a result of a car accident near Trenton, Nebraska.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island.  The Reverends Matt Sass and Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate.  Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Clark was born in Grand Island the son of Marty and Darcy (Frauen) Spanel on February 5, 1982. He attended Grand Island Public Schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 2000.  In High School Clark was active in Athletics, most notably track, where he excelled and won individual state honors.  Clark was an excellent long jumper and sprinter.  Clark was happiest when he was competing in track.  Of small stature, no one had a heart the size of Clark, a fierce competitor in all things.  Clark then attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he also participated in numerous national track meets and graduated in 2004.  Although Clark gained individual honors in track, he always considered his teammates and team goals greater than his own achievements.  Always smiling with an impish grin, Clark had no enemies in life and tons of friends.

On April 22, 2006 Clark was united in marriage to the love of his life Lacritia Welke in Hastings, Nebraska.  He was a great husband, son, nephew, friend, teammate and person.  Clark was always a passionate, positive person, who was fond of telling all who would listen, “Live in the now.”  Clark will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who had the great fortune to spend time with this wonderful man. Clark was a person that cared deeply for others.

Clark was an avid Husker fan, as well as most all sports.  Clark served as a police officer in Hastings.  He currently was employed for Forrest Pharmaceuticals. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lacritia of Hastings, his parents, Marty and Darcy Spanel of Grand Island, his paternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Spanel of Grand Island, maternal grandparents, Richard and Jan Frauen of Grand Island, parents-in-law, Jerry and Carol Welke of Hastings, brothers-in-law, Deyn and Kayd Welke both of Hastings. Clark is also survived by his best friend Brandon Stigge, “The closest person to a brother” of Omaha, Nebraska, numerous Aunts and Uncles, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in memory of Clark Allen Spanel.
