Virgil L. Anderson, 91, of Grand Island,
died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Tiffany Square Center.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical
Free Church in Grand Island. The
Reverend Paul Hofrichter will officiate. Burial will be at
the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths
Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson was born March 8, 1917 on a farm near Greenwood, Nebraska the son of Edward and Gertrude (Johnson)
Anderson.
Survivors are his wife Veva; children and their spouses,
Virgil (Bill) and Diane Anderson of Omaha, LuAnn and Buzz Todd of North Loup, Stuart
and Odessa Anderson of Lincoln and Annette Jane and Terry Anderson
of Snohomish, WA.
Those also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren
and their spouses, Jody and Chris Eberhardt, Michelle and Marty Reuss,
Danielle McCollough, Terri Ann and Mike Geddis, Nicole and Mark Ackmann,
Aaron Anderson, T.J. Anderson and Kelsey Anderson; great grandchildren,
Erik, Taylor, Adam, Carter, Makenzie, Amber, Conner, Emalie, Jaden,
Skylar and Rhett; sister-in-law, Julia Frasier and brother-in-law
and his wife, Bill and Dana Noyes; and nieces and nephews.
His parents and a sister, Bernice Mentzer preceded him
in death.
Virgil was raised on a family farm attending country
school through the eighth grade and graduating form Ceresco High School, class of 1934. He was
united in marriage to Veva Noyes on April 19, 1942 at Ceresco.
They farmed near Davey, Nebraska and later moved to Ceresco. In
1968 he owned and operated with his brother-in-law Cornhusker Oil
in Ceresco. He retired and later in 1985 they moved to Grand Island.
Virgil was a volunteer fireman at Ceresco, served on
the Village Board and was an avid baseball fan having played for
the Davey baseball and softball teams. He loved the New York
Yankee’s and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane
Society.
