Mabel
E. Baker, 78, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Mary Lanning
Memorial Hospital.
Memorial
services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The
Rev. Matthew Fowler will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at Westlawn
Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 30, 1930, at Tarkio, Mo., to Claude and Ruth (Mutchler)
Worley.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael
and Mona Baker of Grand Island; two brothers, George Worley of Atchison, Kan.,
and Floyd Worley of San Jose, Calif.; and a sister, Maxine Denton of Albany,
Mo.
Also left to cherish her memory are 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Gale Baker; a son, Dennis; a great-granddaughter, Kilah Davidson;
a sister, Geraldine Odom and a brother, John Worley, preceded her in death.
Mabel was raised and received her education at Missouri. She received her registered
nursing degree in Omaha. On March 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Gale
Baker at Hastings. Mabel worked at Mary Lanning in Hastings before moving to
Grand Island, where she worked at the Grand Island Veterans Hospital, retiring
in 1992.
She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, was an avid
reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, cards and most of all, spending time with
her grandchildren.
