Donald T. Brooks Sr.

Donald T. Brooks Sr., 75, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Mr. Brooks' wish was to be cremated.

Mr. Brooks was born on Jan. 5, 1933, at Clarks to James and Mildred (Peck) Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, who died March 18, 1985, and a daughter, Gayle Kanter.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Carolyn Brooks of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Rick Watson of Moapa, Nev., and Karen and Jon Hallsted of Grand Island; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wesley and Delores Brooks and Ernest and Patricia Brooks, all of Grand Island.

Other survivors include 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Donald grew up in Merrick County. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Holder on Oct. 14, 1950, after which the couple resided in Grand Island. Donald was employed by Grand Island Fire Department, Mid Plains Construction, Woolco and Grand Island City Parks from which he retired.

Mr. Brooks was a member of Platt-Duetsche. He was an exceptional baseball and softball player, having pitched fast pitch at the Platt-Duetsche. A wonderful provider, Don would have done anything for his family. He will be missed and remembered by many, as he was always there for others.
