Bessie E. Carson

Bessie E. Carson, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of Olpe, Kan., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Pleasantridge Cemetery in Olpe. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carson was born March 23, 1923, at Lyon County, Kan., to William and Hannah McCullough. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Joseph Carson; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Gary Wilson of Grand Island; a brother, Frank McCullough of Columbus, Ind.; and a sister, Wilma Carson of Olpe, Kan. Other survivors are grandchildren, Michelle Crabtree, Laurie Parmenter and Becky William; and great-grandchildren, Christina, Tyler, Katie, Paul, Kurtis and Trevor. Her parents and a sister, Edith Brown preceded her in death. Bessie was raised at Olpe, where she graduated from high school. She received her teachers' certificate from Emporia State College. She married Joseph Carson on May 3, 1943, at Wichita, Kan. They made their home in Olpe where she worked in retail. They moved to Grand Island three years ago to be nearer to their daughter and son-in-law. Bessie and Joseph celebrated their 65th Wedding anniversary this past Saturday. Bessie was a member of Olpe Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and camping.
