Donald E Gannon

Donald E. "Don" Gannon, 60, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. There will be a family prayer at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Gannon was born May 14, 1947, at Grand Island to Elmer and Lillian Gannon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Gannon.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Barbara; his mother Lillian Gannon, a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Barbara Gannon of York, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Daisy Abarr of Burlington, Kan., and Donna and Jay Lankford of Wilbur.

Those also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Cody and Crystal Gannon, mother-in-law, Nora Straube of York, brothers-in-law and their spouses, Kenneth and Janet Morner, Donald and Charlotte Morner, Dennis and Jacque Morner and sister-in-law Donna Morner, many nieces and nephews and his Dachshunds, Bubba, Dolly and Harley.

His father and an infant brother also preceded him in death.

Don was raised and received his education in Grand Island and York, graduating from York High School, class of 1965. He entered the United States Navy. On Aug. 21, 1967, he was united in marriage to Barbara Morner. They lived in York before moving to Grand Island in 1968. He was employed by the Ordinance Plant until its closing when he went to work for the Platte Generating Plant where he worked for over 35 years.

He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, IBEW Local 1597 serving as president 1977-1990 receiving the Nolan Award in 1994, vice president of the Utility Workers Union, charter member of the Central Nebraska Wild Turkey Federation, Platt Duetsche, and the Saddle Club. He was active in Little League for many years and loved hunting.
