'Vi' Green, 84, of Grand Island died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at the Grand
Island Nebraska Veterans Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate.
Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mrs. Green was born Jan. 9, 1924, at Meadow Grove to Emil and Anna Rudnick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Nov. 13, 1997.
Survivors of her immediate family include her children and their spouses, Cindy
and Dennis Smith of Grand Island, Robert Green and his friend, Cindy Kisling,
of Central City, Brad and Teri Green of Grand Island, Kelly Green of Elmwood,
and Tracy and Eric Bicknase of Grand Island; and a sister, Charlotte Warneke
of Norfolk.
Other survivors are grandchildren, Mike, Andrea, Melissa, Katlyn, Jessica, Whitney,
Zachary and Norah; and great-grandchildren, Sydney and Jaycek.
Vi was raised in Meadow Grove and graduated from Neleigh High School. She attended
business school in Lincoln.
On Oct. 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert Green in Lincoln. They
moved to Grand Island in 1953 and she worked for Wig Gollaher and the railroad
as a bookkeeper. From 1958 to 1966 she was employed at Siebert Collection Agency.
She purchased the firm in September 1966. She later sold the company to Rob Heimbuck
and continued to work there for several years. Vi then worked part-time for R.D.
Robertson who owned ABA Recovery until retiring in 1994.
She enjoyed cooking and playing cards and she loved animals.
She was a member and past president of the Altrusa Club and DOES; Grand Island
Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce; Grand Island Business and
Professional Women; Xi Alpha Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi; and was past president
of Nebraska State Collectors Association. She was also a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, the Platt-Duetsche, the Grand Island Saddle Club, the VFW Auxiliary
and the Elks.
On Aug. 19, 1974, she received the 'Beautiful Activist' award from Brandis and
Germaine Monteil Cosmetics Corp. for outstanding contributions to the community.
She was also selected as Business Woman of the Year.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; sisters
Irma and Margaret; and brothers Emil and Arnold.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society in Grand Island.
