Mildred
(Niemoth) Gulzow, 87, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at
St. Francis Medical Center following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Harvey
Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gulzow was born June 3, 1921, at Grand Island to Joseph and Minnie (Gosda)
Niemoth.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Lester; a daughter and
son-in-law, Linell and Jerry Schultz of Doniphan; and a son and daughter-in-law,
Don and Sue Gulzow of Grand Island.
Those also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren and their spouses,
Brenda and Greg Nepper of Lincoln, Brian and Dawn Schultz of Platte City, Mo.,
Jeff and Jackie Gulzow of Lincoln, Kelli and Rob Zavala of Lincoln and Shane
Gulzow of Lincoln; and her great-grandchildren, Josh Nepper, Katie Nepper, Sophia
Schultz, Audrey Schultz, Emma Gulzow, Anna Gulzow, Trey Gulzow, Mya Zavala and
Carter Zavala.
Her parents, a brother, Harold Niemoth, and a granddaughter, Barbara Schultz,
preceded her in death.
Mildred was raised on a family farm north of Grand Island. She was united in
marriage to Lester Gulzow on April 18, 1944, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in
Grand Island. They were blessed in marriage for 64 years.
She was employed at St. Francis Medical Center for nine years. She enjoyed being
a homemaker and spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren were a big part of her life. She loved listening to all the
stories of her grandchildren. Mildred also enjoyed the many get togethers with
visiting friends and neighbors.
Mildred was active in church functions for her entire life. She enjoyed sewing,
baking, gardening, crocheting and was involved with numerous card groups, Extension
Club, 4-H, Farmers Union Ladies and was a volunteer for the Red Cross. She received
the Nebraska Pioneer Award from Ak-Sar-Ben for ownership of the family farm for
over 125 years.
