Esther A. Larsen

Esther A. Larsen, 88, of Grand Island, died Sunday September 7, 2008 at Wedgewood Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church.  The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate.  Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be form 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Larsen was born December 27, 1919 at Cotesfield, NE the daughter of Watson and Annice (VanPelt) Hesselgesser.

Her husband William Larsen preceded her in death on February 11, 1994.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Donnise Larsen of Grand Island; and a sister and brother-in-law, Rozella and Neal Sidders of Wood River.

In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her parents, three infant children and a brother Clarence “Bud” Hesselgesser.

Esther grew up north of Burwell at Valleyview, NE on the Calamus.  Upon completion of the 8th grade, the family moved to Archer, NE where she graduated from Archer High School, class of 1937.

She married William Larsen on June 30, 1940.  They resided in Grand Island most of their married life.  She worked for several local grocery stores and for Augustine and Rinder Printing Company.  She also was the bookkeeper for her husbands business.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Easter Star, Grand Island Women’s Club, Liederkranz Ladies and AARP.  She also taught Sunday school, was a Den Mother and a Shrine Auxiliary chairwoman. 

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
