Hattie
Peterson, 92, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Golden
Living Center at Lakeview.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial
will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Peterson was born Jan. 11, 1916, on a farm near Grand Island to William
and Mary (Steinmeier) Niedfelt.
Survivors include nieces, Bernadine McCumber of Wood River, Gwen Detlefsen
of Sun City, Ariz., Donna Hulme of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Ila Marie Ryan
of Loup City, Elizabeth Gilbert and Frances Ballou, both of Grand Island
and Mary Frances; nephews, William Niedfelt and Jon Niedfelt, both of Orange,
Calif., Darwin Goehring of Paragould, Ark., and Jimmie Quinn.
Hattie attended District 28 school and graduated from Grand Island Senior High
School. She worked at the Vallejo, Calif., hospital for several years as a practical
nurse, returning to Grand Island in 1953 to care for her ailing mother. She worked
at the Lutheran hospital, and was a caregiver and housekeeper for the prominent
Abbot family in Grand Island for several years. She also worked for Platte Valley
Construction Company. Hattie enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing and playing bingo
and often attended Fonner Park races.
She was united in marriage to Charles ÒFredÓ Peterson on Feb. 14,
1970, in Grand Island. She lost her husband and all her possessions during the
tornadoes of June 3, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ilo
Smith Antonsen, Sophia Stoltenberg Stafford, Ida Eirick Wake, Linda Goehring
Miller, and a little twin Minetta; and by her brothers John, William, Albert,
Lawrence ÒPete,Ó Eddy, and little Emil Niedfelt; and a nephew Jerome
Niedfelt.
Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School.
