William R. Poffenbarger

William R. Poffenbarger, 75, of Phillips, NE, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home.

At his request there will be no services and cremation has taken place.  All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Poffenbarger was born on August 29, 1933 at Council Bluffs, IA the son of Arthur and Bertha (Thacker) Poffenbarger.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Bill and Cindy Poffenbarger, Cindy Lynn Poffenbarger, Bobby Joe Poffenbarger, Doug and Lisa Poffenbarger and Kristy Wolff; brothers and sister-in-law, Dick and Nancy Poffenbarger and Larry Poffenbarger; and sisters, Bertie Cowlan and Artie Caputo.

Other survivors are ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

William was raised in Council Bluffs, graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School.  He served in the United States Navy from 1952-1958.  Following the military he worked as an engineer-draftsman.  When he retired he went to work at Wal-Mart in the garden department.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
