Randy
Pokorney, 52, of Grand Island died Friday, May 30, 2008 at Syracuse.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial will
be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Pokorney was born Nov. 14, 1955, at Grand Island, the son of Marlea
Pokorney.
Survivors of the immediate family are his wife, Joni; his daughter, Amanda
Pokorney of Grand Island; his mother, Marlea of Grand Island; and a sister,
Kerry Calverly of Boise, Idaho.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law and her husband, Lori and Rich Holmes of Aurora;
a special cousin and his wife, Mike and Julie Pokorney of Doniphan, and their
children and grandchildren, Amber and Sara and Braydon and Dylan.
Randy was raised in Grand Island, where he graduated from the Grand Island Senior
High class of 1973. He attended Kearney State College.
He was united in marriage to Joni Ortegren on April 23, 1977, in Grand Island.
Randy worked at Chief Automotive before starting with Burlington Northern Railroad
in 1977. He was working for Burlington until the time of his death. Randy was
proud to be a railroader.
Randy was an avid fisherman, loved Husker football and baseball, enjoyed playing
the drums and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved animals, especially his dog, Baxter.
Most of all he enjoyed being with family and friends. His memory will be treasured
by many.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Clara Pokorney.
