Kenneth George Poppert

REDMOND, Ore., George Kenneth Poppert, 80, of Redmond, Ore., died May 26, 2007, of Melanoma.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Grand Island. The Rev. Jerry Ness and Deacon Betsy Bennett will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at 9 a.m. in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

All Faiths Funeral Home assisted with local arrangements.

Mr. Poppert was born July 17, 1926, at Norton, Kan., George Poppert and Ruby Gustin.

Survivors of the immediate family include his children, Vicki Davis of Sherman, Texas, Debbie Lambert of Portland, Ore., Terrie, Tina and Mitch, all of Crooked River, Ore.; two sisters, Carol Mathews of Grand Island and Beverly Carpenter of Redmond, Ore.; and a brother, Richard of Olympia, Wash.

Additional survivors include eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

He graduated from high school in 1944. He married Dorothy Wade in May 1948. Two children were born, Vicki Irene and Debra Kay. She passed away in 1952. He married Janet Schubert in March 1956. They had three children; Terrie Sue, Tina Marie and George Mitchell.

Mr. Poppert served aboard the USS Colbert during World War II. He worked as a brick mason in many places. He had helped build the current St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Redmond, where he was a member. He was a member of a bowling team in Redmond, was an avid Golfer. He enjoyed woodworking. He lived in Redmond for 18 years.
