Jerome
J. Rathman, 75, of Wood River died Friday, May 2, 2008, at home after a
lengthy illness with cancer.
Services
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand
Island. The Rev. Tim Rust will officiate. Burial will be in Wood
River Cemetery, with military honors by Wood River American Legion
Post 314.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Abundant Life Christian Center.
All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rathman was born March 8, 1933, at Alda to Herman and Mamie (Seier) Rathman.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paige.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Janice; a daughter and son-in-law,
Kenda and Dave Chamberlin of Hastings; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Lisa
Rathman of Wood River; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Eunetta and Ben Schoneberg
of Grand Island and Emogene Veeder of Cairo; and three brothers and sisters-in-law,
Merlin and Maxine Rathman and Delbert and Jan Rathman, all of Wood River and
Elton and Vera Rathman of Grand Island.
Other survivors include grandchildren, Adam Rathman, Meagan Rathman, Joshua Chamberlin
and Taylor Chamberlin.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, LaVonne.
Jerome was raised on a farm south of Wood River and attended District School
63 and graduated from Wood River High School in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army
in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953.
He was united in marriage to Janice Peirce on Nov. 22, 1956, at Wood River. They
farmed near Wood River, and Jerome also worked for Federal Crop Insurance as
an area claim specialist, from which he retired. He continued working as an insurance
adjuster.
He was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center and the Wood River American
Legion. He enjoyed golfing in the senior tournaments and with family, and fishing
with family and friends.
