Mary Rochek

Mary Rochek, 100, of Grand Island, formerly of Alda, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Golden Living Center at Lakeview.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the All Faiths Funeral Home.  The Reverend

Nancy Lambert will officiate.  Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mary was born December 7, 1907 at Pottawattamie County, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Nora Gallup. In 1910 Mary and her family moved to farm near Cushing, NE where she graduated from Cushing High School in 1927.

On December 3, 1930 she married Carl Rochek at Cushing, NE.  In 1942 they moved to the Rochek home place.  In 1948 they moved to Wolbach and to Alda in 1951.  In December of 2001 she moved into Grandview Apartments in Grand Island and in March of 2005 she moved to Lakeview Nursing Center.

Mary is a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.  She played drums in the Carl Rochek Rhythm Ramblers Dance Band.  She was employed at Wolbach’s, Safeway and J.C. Penny’s.  Later she assisted Carl in the lawn service they owned. 

Survivors are her grandchildren, Rick and Sherry Otto of Grand Island, Jay and Michelle Otto of Phillips, Daryl and Amy Rochek of Richland, WA, Edward Rochek of Newport, WA, Alan Rochek of Eloy, Arizona, daughter-in-law, Rose Mae Rochek of Newport, WA, and several great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, daughter and son-in-law, Carleene and Richard Otto, a son George, granddaughter Ralynda, a brother George and a sister Nona.

A memorial fund will be established in Mary’s name.
