Julia Anna Schlichting

Julia Anna Schlichting, 92, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Central City Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Hooper Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Mrs. Schlichting was born March 29, 1916, in Cuming County near Hooper to Emil P. and A. Louise (Hoegemeyer) Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Schlichting.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Jan Schlichting of Littleton, Colo., and Ivan Schlichting and Anne K. Morse, M.D. of Grand Island; and a sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Howard Kjeldgaard of Lincoln.

Also left to cherish her memory are a grandson, Ross Schlichting of San Antonio; a granddaughter, La Rae and her husband, Grant Marsik, of Highland's Ranch, Colo.; great-grandsons, Jayden and Sage Marsik; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church near Uehling on April 28, 1929. She graduated from Hooper High School and attended Wayne State Teachers College. Upon certification, she taught at schools in Burt and Dodge counties.

Julia was united in marriage to Rudolph F. Schlichting on Aug. 10, 1938. They were dairy farmers at Lyons, retiring in 1974 and moving to West Point, where Julia worked as a nurse's aide and as a retail clerk. After Rudy's death on Feb. 22, 1995, Julia moved to Grand Island in 1996.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Mary Circle and several other clubs.

Julia was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sister-in-law, Myron Miller of Sioux City, Iowa, and Clyde and Linda Miller of Bancroft.

Memorials are suggested to her local Lutheran churches.
