Phyllis J. Smith

Phyllis J. Smith, 81, of Grand Island, died Wednesday March 19, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Phyllis was born October 6, 1926 at Ord, NE the daughter of Leonard and Loretta Covert.  She was raised in Ord where she graduated form high school, class of 1944.  She was united in marriage to Maynard Smith on October 18, 1944 at Ord.  They moved to Grand Island in 1949 where she was employed by Ellen’s Flower Basket and Barr Junior High School.

Her husband Maynard preceded her in death November 17, 2002. 

She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.  Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, camping and spending time with family.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Connie Tobler of Alda, a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Sharon Smith of Oklahoma City, OK and a sister Erma Axthelm of Mt. Vernon, WA.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Steve, Shelly, Becky, Tearza, Kyle and Tori, and 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death also by her daughter Diana Schupp and a brother Paul Covert.
