Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of All Faiths
Funeral Home with military honors.At Mr. Thorne's request, cremation will take place, with no visitation.
Mr. Thorne was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Grand Island to Hans and Katherine (Geseking) Thorne.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Bev; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Rita Thorne of Lexington and Mat and Michelle Thorne of Grand Island; and two daughters, Traci Buettner of Grand Island and Linda Grape of Columbus.
Those also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Mikayla Thorne, Brett Buettner, Brady Buettner, Lynnsey Grape, Chase Grape and Cole Thorne.
His parents and a brother, Jack Thorne, preceded him in death.
Jerry was raised in Ottumwa, Iowa, Lexington and Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School in 1949. He attended Hastings College, where he played basketball. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On July 2, 1955, Jerry was united in marriage to Beverly Connole at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island, then in Lexington, where they owned and operated a motel for two years before moving to Hastings. In Hastings, Jerry was a Realtor with his brother. In 1974 they moved to Grand Island, where he worked for Sam Huston Reality. Jerry then went to work for the Thompson Company, where he retired in 1992.
Jerry enjoyed horse racing, football, baseball and basketball. He was an avid Husker fan and Boston Celtics fan. He was a member of the American Legion.
A memorial fund will be established in his name..
