Lavon
'Barney' Turnbull, 78, of Grand Island died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at home
with his family by his side.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev.
Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park
Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with
family greeting friends from 5 to 7.
Mr. Turnbull was born Dec. 18, 1929, at Pawnee City to Ray and Christina (Lauts)
Turnbull.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Anne; three sons and daughters-in-law,
David and Marsha Turnbull of Pullman, Wash., Robert and Velma Turnbull and Evan
and Leigh Turnbull, all of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Irvin and
Carol Jean Turnbull of Georgetown, Texas; and two sisters and brothers-in-law,
Belva and Jim Hullendar of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Wilena and Ray Folken of
Wilkesboro, N.C.
Other survivors include seven grandchildren, David, Hannah, Amelia, Justin and
Taylor Turnbull and Donald and Andrew Kerzmann.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was raised and received his education in Pawnee City, graduating in 1948.
He attended Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Mo., graduating with
an Associate of Science Degree in electronics in 1958. Barney served in the United
States Air Force from 1950 until his discharge in 1953 with the rank of sergeant.
He was united in marriage to Anne Wiegand on Dec. 27, 1951, at Beatrice, after
which the couple lived in Mississippi, Kansas City, Mo., Lincoln and Chanute,
Kan., before moving to Grand Island in 1963. Barney worked as an electronics
technician for the Federal Aviation Administration before retiring in 1988. After
retiring, he worked at Stuhr Museum.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Platt-Duetsche and Stuhr Museum. His
hobbies included woodworking.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, Heartland
Lutheran High School or St. Francis Hospice.
