Josephine
H. Vasquez, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Golden
Living Center at Lakeview.
Services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel.
The Revs. Rene Lopez and Terry Brown will officiate. Burial will
be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Vasquez was born Oct. 9, 1924, at Love Lady, Texas, to Santiago and Guadalupe
(Dominguez) Hernandez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and infant twins.
Survivors of the immediate family include five daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie
and James Benson of Dallas, Mary Williams of Grand Island, Sylvia Vasquez of
Grand Prairie, Texas, Jeri and Dennis Hawkes of Grand Island and Lillie and Steve
Shottenkirk of Jones, Okla.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Dolly
Vasquez and Steve Vasquez, all of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Other survivors are 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Roger Williams.
Josephine was raised in Texas, Arizona and California. She was united in marriage
to Ray Vasquez in 1945. They lived in San Jose, Calif., before moving to Grand
Island in 1962. She took great pride in caring for her family.
She was a member of the Ebenezer Church. Josephine had a strong faith that she
shared with others, including ministering to inmates. She was an accomplished
seamstress, sewing, crocheting and making quilts.
