Merle
K. Weerheim, 81, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at St. Francis
Medical Center.
Services
will be at 2 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary
Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery
with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Weerheim was born Sept. 8, 1927, at Corsica, S.D., to Jacob and Velma (Putzier)
Weerheim.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Sue; a son, Jeffrey Weerheim
of Hastings; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Carol Thibault of Grand
Island and Jan and Larry Byrkit of Juniata; three stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law,
Arnold and Renee Bohannon of Armagossa, Nev., Rodney and Ann Bohannon of Council
Bluffs, Iowa, and Roger and Jan Bohannon of Pahrump, Nev.; and three brothers,
Kenneth Weerheim of Armour, S.D., Harry Weerheim of Boise, Idaho, and Denny Weerheim
of Idaho.
Other survivors are four stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin Weerheim.
Merle was raised and received his education in Corsica, S.D. He served in the
United States Army. On April 28, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sue Ehrisman
Bohannon. They lived in Wagner, S.D., until 1968 when they moved to Alda. Later
they moved to Clay Center and to Grand Island in 1996. Merle worked for Werner's
Construction as a truck driver, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed bowling and hunting.
