Albert Bruns
Vernon Albert Bruns, 77, of Grand
Island, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Grand Island Veterans Hospital.
Service will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, NE. The Reverend Craig Niemeier will
officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the
family.
Mr. Bruns was born December 20, 1931 on the family farm
in Merrick County the
son of Albert and Anna (Kaiser) Bruns.
Survivors are his wife Delores; sons and daughters-in-law,
John and Jane Bruns of Boise, Idaho, Jim and the late Geralyn Bruns
of Grand Island, Mark and Lynn Bruns of Dalhart, TX; daughter and
son-in-law, Mary Ann and Jason Eckberg of Las Vegas, NV; sister,
Ruth Friedrichson of Palmer and brother, Robert Bruns of Wilmington,
Delaware.
Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Adam
and Arin Bruns, Jacilyn and Julie Bruns, Zachary and Trey Bruns.
His parents; daughters-in-law, Lisa Bruns and Geralyn
Bruns and brother-in-law, Donald Thomsen welcomed him into heaven.
Vern attended school at District 44 in Merrick County and Zion Lutheran School in Worms. He farmed with
his father on the family farm. In November of 1952 Vern entered
the U.S. Army serving in the 720th Military Police with
a tour of duty in Tokyo Japan for 17 months and honorably
discharged in October 1954. He returned to the farm and continued
to farm and raise livestock and crops until retiring in 2002.
Vernon and Delores Thomsen were
united in marriage on March 24, 1957 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. An active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Worms with a strong faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ, Vern was an active member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League
of Worms. He also served as President of the Chapman Rural Fire
Board for 36 years. He was active in the ‘Tri F Group’ since
1955 and assisted his children in 4-H and FFA livestock projects.
He enjoyed attending church and community activities;
visiting with friends and neighbors, spending time with his family
and treasured the moments with each of his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested Zion Lutheran Church.
