Joseph N. Carson

Joseph N. Carson, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Olpe, Kansas, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Pleasantridge Cemetery in Olpe.  All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carson was born August 12, 1920 in Lyon County, Kansas the son of Joseph and Catherine (McIlvain) Carson.

His wife Bessie preceded him in death in 2008.

Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn “Sue” and Gary Wilson of Grand Island.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Michelle Crabtree of Sioux City, IA, Laurie Parmenter of Grand Island and Becky Wilson of Grand Island; great-grandchildren, Christina, Tyler, Katie, Paul, Kurtis, Trevor and Haily.

In addition to his wife he is preceded by his parents, brother, George and sisters, Mamie and Ann.

Joseph was raised on a family farm east of Olpe, KS and graduated from Lamont, Kansas High School.  He served in the United States Air Force during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre.  He married Bessie McCullough on May 3, 1943 at Wichita, KS.  They made their home in Olpe moving to Grand Island four years ago.

Joseph worked as an engineer for the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline in Olpe retiring after 40 years of service.  He is a member of Olpe Methodist Church.  He enjoyed camping and gardening.
