Ed
Edwards, 81, of Grand Island, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at St. Francis
Medical Center.
Service
will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family
prayer service at 10:15 a.m. The Reverend Kris Rebentisch and Vicar
Josh Leigeber will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mr. Edwards was born March 23, 1928 on a family farm in Nance County
the son of Chauncey and Grace (Morris) Edwards.
Survivors are his wife Elvira; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Beth
Edwards of Los Angeles, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve
Parr of Omaha, NE and brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Phyllis Edwards
of Longmont, CO and Virgil Edwards of Montrose, CO.
Those also left to cherish his memory are granddaughters, Brianna, Sophia,
Ava and Zoe. His parents preceded him in death.
Ed was raised on the family farm and received his education in country
schools. He attended Glendale California Junior College in 1950. He served
in the Nebraska Army National Guard for six years. On December 31, 1950
he was united in marriage to Elvira Schmidt at the old Trinity Lutheran
Church.
They made their home in Grand Island where Ed served as the director
of the Grand Island-Hall County health department. He retired after a
38-year career there. He began working for the health department in June
1956. Prior to that, he was a meat and poultry inspector in Grand Island
for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche. Ed
was an avid gardener, loved wild life and bird watching. He was a proud
husband, father and grandfather. His memory will be treasured by many.
Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School.
