"Rocky" P. Flores
Rachel “Rocky” P. Flores, 57, of Grand Island died January
13, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.
A
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s
Cathedral. Father Richard Pointkowski will officiate. Burial of ashes
will be in La Pieda, Michocan, Mexico at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral
Home, with a Rosary at 7:30.
Rocky was born June 22, 1951, in Grand Island, the daughter of Pedro
and Hope (Soto) DeLeon.
Rocky grew up in Wood River, NE, moving to Grand Island in 1966. She
received her education at Grand Island Senior High.
Rocky was united in marriage to Jose Francisco “Guero” Flores,
Sr., the love of her life, on November 10, 1973 at St. Mary’s Cathedral
in Grand Island. Rocky was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Rocky was employed at Dreisbach’s Steak House for 23 years. A natural
florist, she was a designer at “Roses For You” for the past
10 years. She enjoyed Bingo, playing the ‘slots’, and her
own version of “Aggravation”. “Mama Roc” was
the rock of her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Hope DeLeon; sons,
Gabriel Flores and Jose Francisco Flores, Jr.; daughters, Eva Flores
and Susana Flores; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy DeLeon, Pete and
Colleen DeLeon, Jr., Joseph and Marlene DeLeon, James DeLeon and Albert
and Diane DeLeon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angie and Tony Roman,
Rosie and “Benny” Casares, Josie Reyes, Tommie and Mario
Martinez, Virgie and Steve Kuck, Micki and Dave Kenyon, Frannie and Tony
Torrez, Lucy and Brandon Flynn and her beloved granddaughter, Graciela
Flores.
She is preceded in death by her husband “Guero”, August
1, 1995; her father, Pete DeLeon Sr., grandparents, Rafael and Angelita
DeLeon, Jesus and Rosario Soto and mother-in-law, Delfina Flores Melgoza
