J. Gudgel
Andrew J. Gudgel, 91, of Grand Island, died Friday,
November 6, 2009 at Tiffany Square Center.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday
at Grace Lutheran Church. The Reverends Daniel Bremer and Stuart Burt will officiate. Burial
will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Springview,
Nebraska.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths
Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Mr. Gudgel was born on November 5, 1918 at Wrage,
NE the son of Amos and Emily (Ogden) Gudgel.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law,
Reverend Richard and Bonnie Gudgel of Omaha, Andrew Dean and Lila Gudgel
of Grand Island and Wayne Gudgel of Lincoln; daughters and sons-in-law,
Ruth Ellen and Alan Strauch of Grand Island and Lynnette and David Gibson
of Grand Island; brothers, Charles Gudgel of Ainsworth, NE and Jack Gudgel
of Gering, NE; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Melvin Brokofsky
of Grand Island and Ida and LaVern Fernau of Nampa, Idaho; step-sisters
and their husbands, Sherrill and Robert Hershiser of Greenburg, KS and
Sharron and Dean Jochem of Ainsworth, NE.
Other survivors are 19 grandchildren,
32 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents; his first
wife Marie; his second wife Dorothy; daughter, Lena Goddard; grandson,
Philip Gudgel and brothers, Francis, Sherman and William Gudgel.
Andrew was raised on the family farm
near Wrage, Nebraska in Cherry County. He was united in marriage to Marie Jochem on
August 23, 1940 at Thedford, NE. The couple farmed in Keya Paha
County for 17 years. In 1959 he became owner and operator of the
Springview Flour and Grain Company. He also held a class 4 water
operators license for the Springview Village. Marie died on June
24, 1978. He then married Dorothy (Floro) Smith on April 26, 1980
at Grand Island. He retired and they moved to Grand Island in 1993. Dorothy
died February 26, 2004.
He is a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
