Elinor "Tad" Harms
Elinor ‘Tad’ Harms, 84, of Grand
Island, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Golden Living Center at Lakeview.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at
10:15. The Reverend Kris Rebentisch will officiate. Burial
will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harms was born June 13, 1924 at Battle Creek, NE the daughter of George and Amalie (Oetting)
Eggen.
Survivors are her husband Reverend Robert Harms; children,
Constance Halderman of Grand Island, Daniel Graney of Amarillo, TX,
Rochelle Sassman of Foley, MO, Bret Harms of Central City, NE and
son-in-law, Eugene Howell of Ansley, NE; brothers, Ray Eggen of Florida
and Gilbert Eggen of Des Moines, IA; and a sister, Irene Boehnke
of Grand Island.
As a child her family moved to Norfolk where they became members of Christ Lutheran Church. Since that congregation had
a Christian Day
School, Tad received her elementary education
there. She then attended Norfolk High School from which she graduated. She
received training and learned short-hand, which she used as a secretary
for several employers in Norfolk and
finally at Monsanto in St.
Louis, MO.
She was joined in marriage to Robert Harms June 22, 1947,
at Christ Lutheran in Norfolk. Over the course of time they
adopted five children, three girls and two boys. One daughter
has already been called to glory. They have enjoyed 62 years
of marriage.
Since her husband was a pastor, they have lived in several
communities. The first was Trinity Lutheran at Lebanon, MO. The next congregation was Zion Lutheran
at Pierce, NE; then to Zion Lutheran at Hastings, NE,
and finally to Zion Lutheran at Harvester, MO. Upon her husband’s
retirement they moved to Grand Island,
where they became members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Tad joined the Ladies Aid
and the Lutheran Laymen’s League.
