Chester L. Hitchcock
Chester L. Hitchcock, 89, of Aurora died Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Aurora Memorial Hospital.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel, 2929 South Locust Street in Grand Island. Reverend Mary Scott will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Hay Springs Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Hitchcock was born September 27, 1920 on a farm 5 miles west of Hay Springs, NE to Lynn and Audrey Hitchcock.
Survivors are his wife, Jean; daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Bill Clements; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Hitchcock and brother and sister-in-law, Dorman and Margie Hitchcock.
Those also left to cherish his memory are granddaughters, Kirsten Clements and Mendy and her husband Brian Dickey; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Charlie Dickey and nieces and nephews he dearly loved.
His parents; sister, Verona and brothers Lyle and Harold welcomed him into heaven.
Chet attended rural school and graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1939. He married Jean Newblom on May 2, 1945 at the Methodist Church in Hay Springs where they lived until 1953. They then moved to Gordon and later to North Platte. Chet worked and retired from the State Department of Roads as warehouse foreman. In 2007 they moved to Aurora, NE where they lived with their daughter.
Chet was a World War II veteran and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in France. He was very proud to have served his country. Chet’s hobby was the love to work with wood. He had a shop where he spent a lot of his time working on projects for his family.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Memorial Foundation (Hospital) in Aurora, NE.
