Wilner "Bill" Holder

Wilner “Bill” Holder, 79, of Grand Island, died Saturday, October 03, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12th in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel.  Dan Naranjo will officiate.  Military honors will be provided by Nebraska Army National Guard and United Veterans Honor Guard. 

There will be no visitation.  To honor Mr. Holder’s wishes cremation has taken place. 

Bill was born July 20, 1930 at Grand Island, NE, the son of Earl and Zelma (Montgomery) Holder. He graduated from Cairo High School, class of 1948.  After graduation, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.  Bill entered the United States Army on February 14, 1951 at Omaha, Nebraska.   While on active duty Bill served in Germany and South Korea. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on October 8, 1956 at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey

Following his military service, Bill lived in Holmdel and Freehold in Monmouth County, NJ, serving as a police officer, sheriff’s deputy, fireman, EMT, and was employed by the Western Union.  While in New Jersey, he was a member of NJ Fraternal Order of Police and Fireman.  He was also a chef and caterer. After moving back to Grand Island, Bill was a dispatcher for 911 and Civil Defense and a Deputy Sheriff.

Bill was united in marriage to Sandra J. Loaris on March 29, 2002.

He was a member of Elks, Interfaith Community Choir and Interfaith Inspirations. Bill enjoyed fishing, reading westerns, working in his shop and cooking, especially baking bread, which he joyfully shared with others.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Holder; stepdaughter, Ann Loaris of Lincoln; sister, Louise Morrison-Wood of Grand Island and brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Mary Holder of Fort Scott, KS; brother-in-law, Frank Thurber of Tecumseh, NE; sister-in-law and her husband, Sarah and Gene Young of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces and nephews; special friends, Mike Goldsmith and Julie Cates, both of Grand Island and best buddy, Sassy.

Preceded in death by parents; sister, Marilyn Brooks; brother, Jim Holder three brothers-in-law; Don Brooks, Vernon Wood and Jim Morrison

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
