J. (Dick) Homan
Richard J. (Dick) Homan, 71, of Grand
Island, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at
St. Francis Skilled Care.
A gathering for family and friends
will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Monday May 25, 2009 at the
Platt- Duetsche in Grand Island in lieu of
a memorial service.
All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.
Dick was born September 19, 1937
in Cedar Rapids, NE, the son of Matt and Marcella (Goering)
Homan.
He is survived by his wife Johanna;
sons Joe and his wife Jackie of Waverly, Paul and his wife Tara of
Bellevue, William and his wife Audrey of Lincoln, Robert and his
wife Laura of Omaha, and daughter Mara and special son-in-law Stuart
Detloff of Alda; sister, Mary Jo Higginbotham of Council Bluffs,
IA and sisters-in-law, Julie of Omaha and Sandy of Meadow Grove.
Other survivors include his twelve
grandchildren, Zachary, Derrik, Daniel, Taylor, Kelsey, Alyssa, Dana,
Julia, Tess, Sawyer, Annika and Nichole and a great granddaughter,
Lorelei.
Dick was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers, John and William and a granddaughter, Emily
Bolles.
Dick was raised on the family farm
near Cedar Rapids. He
graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1955. He moved to Omaha in
1958, where he worked for R&C Packing until he was drafted into
the Army in 1961. Dick served in Okinawa as
a radar operator until his honorable discharge in November 1962. In
1963, Dick started working for Wilson Concrete out of Omaha,
then later Sioux City, IA. Dick met Johanna Jordan while working
in Sioux City. They
were united in marriage on February 27, 1965 at Sutherland, IA. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1965 where
Dick continued to work for Wilson Concrete as a salesman for 40 years,
until his retirement in 2003.
He was a past president of the Nebraska
Concrete Pipe Association and a Chairman of the Agricultural Committee
for National Concrete Pipe Association. Dick was also a member
of the Engineers Club, Saddle Club, Platt Duetsche and the American
Legion.
A memorial fund will be established
in his name.
