Bethyl Z. Johnson

Bethyl Z. Johnson, 81, of Grand Island, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Tiffany Square Center.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Ms. Johnson was born March 15, 1928 at Grand Island the daughter of Henry and Edna (Rockhold) Bremers.

Survivors are her daughters, Michele Downs of Grand Island and Robyn Congrove of Russell, KS and son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Sunshine Johnson of Boulder Creek, CA.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Anthony Harris, Andrea Harris, Marcie Johnson Higgins, Mercadies Congrove and Mikala Peterson and great-grandchildren, Katie Higgins, Kyle Higgins, Jasmine Harris, Michael Harris and Keli Harris. She is also survived by her faithful “ladies”, Puff and Sable.

Her parents; three sisters, Helen Bremers, Esther Bremers and Avis Frey preceded her in death.

Bethyl graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1946. She married Christ Johnson on April 17, 1951. She started working for the Veterans Administration Hospital in 1956 as a switchboard operator; later serving as a statistician, then moving onto procurement of prosthetics. She retired in 1988 from the VA. She then went to work for NOVA Tech as an office administrator retiring in 1994.

Bethyl made many wonderful friendships playing bingo. Her memory will be treasured by many.

Memorials are suggested to “GRACE” Grand Island Area Cancer Endowment to assist cancer patients and their families.
