Raymond
V. Magwire, 89, of Grand
Island, NE died
on December 13, 2009 at home with his family by his side.
Services
will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan
Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mr.
Magwire was born on November 9, 1920 at Tilden, NE,
the son of Vester and Alma (Matzen) Magwire.
Survivors
are his wife, Margaret of 62 years; son and daughter-law, Ken and
LuAnn Magwire of Eagle River, Alaska; daughters and son-in-laws,
Marla and Greg Mehring of Grand Island, Vicki and Randy Gard of Grand
Island; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike Magwire of Tilden, NE,
Dean and Colette Magwire of Lincoln, NE and Jack and Maxine Magwire
of Lincoln, NE; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Mike Qualset
of Tilden, NE, Margaret “Shug” Paulsen of O’Neill,
NE and Irene and Gene Martin of Niabrara, NE.
Those
also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren and their spouses,
Aaron Magwire of Anchorage, AK, Sara and Tracy Haan of Palmer, AK,
Lindsay and Mitch Hinrichs of Grand Island, Taylor Vanis of Grand
Island; great granddaughters Kaleigh and Logan Hinrichs, along with
a very special niece, Bobbie Carlson of Omaha, and her children Dax
Carlson of Grand Island and Holly Carlson of Omaha. He was
welcomed into heaven by his parents; sisters, Florence Dittrich,
Marian Lingenfelter and Euna Magwire.
Raymond
was raised and received is education in Tilden, graduating from Tilden High School in 1938. From 1938-40 he farmed
with his father south of Tilden. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft
in California from
1940-41.
He
entered the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 and was honorably
discharged in 1946 with the rank of a staff sergeant.
Ray
was united in marriage to Margaret Cram on September 21, 1947 at Tilden, NE. They have made Grand Island their home since 1958. Raymond worked for
Super-Sweet Feeds 1958-70 and was a Turkey Grower from 1948-91.
Memorials
are suggested to Project Care through St. Francis Foundation or Central
Nebraska Humane Society.
