Maynard
B. Mason, 85, of Grand Island died Tuesday,
August 25, 2009 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora, NE.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian
Church in Grand Island. Reverend
Dr. Scott Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Ansley Cemetery, Ansley, NE.
Visitation will be from 5-7 Thursday at All Faiths Funeral
Home.
Maynard was born on November 7, 1923, the son of Harris
and Lurene (Daily) Mason at Ansley.
Those left to cherish his name are his wife, Donna; daughter
and son-in-law, Linda and John Price of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law,
Steve and Cindy Mason of Grand Island; and brother and sister-in-law,
Lloyd and Jesselyn Mason of Denver, CO.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses,
Todd and Amy Price of Grand Island, Tara Helms of Lincoln, Abby and
Zach Bjornsen of Omaha and Cory Mason of Grand Island; six great
grandchildren, Alex Agostine, Kaylie Agostine, Maggie Helms, Hannah
Price, Emma Price and Hayden Price; sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Roma and Oscar Lundquist and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter,
Patricia Ann Mason; a son, Terry Dean Mason; sisters, Arlene Mason
and Marvelle Hawkins and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty
and Doyle Garwood.
Maynard grew up on the family farm southeast of Ansley
and attended rural Algernon schools, graduating from Ansley High School in 1941. After graduation,
he taught in rural schools in Custer County. Maynard was united in marriage
to Donna Belle King in Broken Bow, NE on December 22, 1943.
He went into farming and ranching in the Cumro area until
the couple moved to Grand
Island in 1960. Maynard was manager
of Sears Farm Store and Automotive Center for
35 years, retiring in 1995. He received many outstanding honors
for his management and sales. After retirement, Maynard and
Donna were busy attending activities of their grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, where
he served as a deacon; of the Aerie Eagles 378 and the Grand Island
Saddle Club. Maynard enjoyed planning trips and traveling with friends
Dale and Reva Jean Skeen of Broken Bow. The two couples traveled
together for several years until Maynard’s health failed. Maynard
served on the Stolley Park School Board for several years and was
a great Husker and Yankee fan.
