Jerry Peatman

Jerry was born October 17, 1916 at Welda, KS, the daughter of Fred and Junie (Brown) Carnes. She was raised and received her education in Welda.

She went on to attend Pittsburg State College.  Jerry taught school in Kansas for a few years before she was married.  She was united in marriage to Ralph on May 29, 1944 in San Antonio.  Following their marriage the couple lived in San Antonio where Ralph was stationed during WWII.  While they were there, Jerry taught school.  When Ralph was discharged, they moved to Mound City, where Jerry worked for the family business, Peatman Motor Chevrolet.  When the business sold in 1952, the couple moved to California.  They moved back to Mound City to raise their daughter.  There they owned and operated a Gambles Store.  Jerry was a counselor for a number of years for the Sunflower Girls State organization of Kansas.  Jerry moved to Grand Island a few years ago to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

Jerry is a member of the Mound City Federated Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star.  An avid card player, she was a member of Bridge groups in Mound City and Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Peatman, Jr., on March 1, 1994.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Bob Kipper of Grand Island; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kristen and Ed Scharrenberg of Grand Island, Robert and Tracy Kipper of Olathe, KS and Robin and Marcus Bryant of Corpus Christi, TX; five great grandchildren, Jordan, Colin and Logan Kipper and Conor and Cassidy Bryant; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Kissick of Long Beach, CA.
