Karen
S. Salpas, 59, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Wedgewood
Care Center following a yearlong battle with cancer and with her family
by her side.
Service
will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Dan
Naranjo will officiate. Cremation will take place following the service
with ashes buried in the Greeley Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ms. Salpas was born on January 17, 1950 at Marion, North Carolina the
daughter of Henry and Joyce (Dowers) Pyles.
Survivors are her children and their spouses, Kevin and Michelle Salpas,
Kim and Miguel Lemburg and Gary and Liz Salpas all of Grand Island; a
brother, James Dills of Doniphan and sisters and brother-in-law, Diane
and Donald Whelan of Grand Island, Belinda Prayter of Ohio and Texanna
Leedy of Arizona.
Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Brandon and
Jaden Salpas, Brianna, Alissa and Alexander Hunter; nieces and nephews,
Tammy Williams, Kenny Whelan, Brian Dills, Kathy Skyles and Taffy Jones.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Karen moved to Greeley as a young girl and later attended Grand Island
Northwest High School. She married Gus Salpas on July 20, 1968. She made
her home in Grand Island where she worked for MOSAIC for sixteen years.
She enjoyed playing pool, darts, going to the lake, crocheting and watching
scary movies.
