Mary
V. Trejo, 73, of Grand Island died
Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at St. Francis Skilled Care surrounded by her
family.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s
Cathedral. The Reverend Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate. Burial
will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday with a parish
Rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. The
Reverend Vince Parsons will lead the Rosary.
Mrs. Trejo was born May 14, 1935, at Horton, Kansas, to Ventura and
Tomasa Valdez. She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Trejo.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband
Juan; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Felicitas ‘Fela’ Trejo
and her friend Crispin Ciprian of Grand Island, Eva and Antelmo Sanchez
of Kearney, Enedina ‘Nina’ and Leon Baker of Blytheville,
Arkansas, C. Sabina and Arturo Chavez of Sutton and Anita M. Rodriguez
of Grand Island; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Juan Jr. and
Danon Trejo of Hollister, MO, Gilberto and Terri Trejo of Wood River
and Thomas ‘Tommy’ Trejo of Grand Island; and four brothers
and a sister-in-law, Ignasio ‘Nacho’ Valdez, Jess Valdez,
both of Grand Island, Nato Valdez of Chicago and Ben and Emily Valdez
of Omaha.
Additional survivors include 22 grandchildren and 27
great-grandchildren and one due any day.
Mary Valdez and Juan Trejo were united in marriage on
May 30, 1952, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. Mary lived in Corpus Christi, Texas from
1953 to 1959, while her husband served in Korea in
the United States Army. In 1959, they moved back to Grand Island where they
raised their eight children. She was a wonderful wife, mother
and grandmother and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her
family.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson,
Augustine T. Trejo and a great-granddaughter, Geneva Liberato.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
