Harvey was born June 25, 1925,
in Lincoln, NE, the son of Ed and Agnes (Varga) Zichek.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of
58 years, Deloris; son Ronald Zichek of Grand
Island; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Matthes
of Cairo and sister, Daisy
Kuskie of Central City.
Also left to cherish his memory are a granddaughter and
her husband, Michelle and Rick Lockard and a great granddaughter,
Gabrielle Lockard.
Harvey is preceded
in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Gayle Diane Zichek; brother,
Donald Zichek; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Dorothy Zichek and
a brother-in-law, Elsmer Kuskie.
Harvey was raised
and attended school in Central City. He had to leave school at
an early age to help on the farm, since his brothers went into the service. He
was united in marriage to Deloris May on August 14, 1950. After
their marriage, the couple lived in rural Palmer before settling in Grand Island in 1960. Harvey farmed and was a
self-taught welder. He was employed by New Moon/Redman Mobile Homes
and later by BonnaVilla Homes in Aurora. Eventually Harvey became co-owner of
J-Boys Lounge and Package Store from which he retired in 1996.
A hard-working man, Harvey always had a project
in the works; building five homes and three playhouses for his family
over the years. His interests included reading westerns, gardening
and watching the Guy Lombardo show, but most of all he enjoyed spending
time with his family.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Arthritis
Foundation or donor’s choice.
