W. Bartunek
Ray W. Bartunek, 93, of Grand Island, died Sunday April 25, 2010, at
Saint Francis Medical Center.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Father
Charles L. Torpey will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn
Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the United Veterans
Honor Guard and Nebraska Army National Guard.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Ray was born on February 22, 1917 at Bee, NE the son of William and
Amelia Bartunek.
His wife Betty preceded him in death on February 22, 2008.
Those left to cherish his memory are children, Bill and his wife Kathy
Bartunek of Grand Island and Nancy Bartunek of Glendale, AZ; sister,
Marie Hain of Seward, NE.
Other survivors are grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy and Brian
Sybrandts of Grand Island and Tyler and Megan Bartunek of Waverly, NE;
great-grandchildren, Kyla Sybrandts, Katelyn Sybrandts, and Aniston Bartunek.
He was welcomed into heaven by his wife, parents, and one sister Adeline.
Ray grew up on the family farm near Bee, NE. He served in the
United States Army. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth ‘Betty’ L.
Ficke on May 20, 1941 at David City. Following their marriage they
lived and farmed near Bee for 25 years.
They moved to Grand Island in 1967 where they owned and operated Dad’s
Liquor Store. He also worked for New Holland for eight years and
as well as Penrose Machine. He was a member of St. Leo’s
Catholic Church and helped organize the Knights of Columbus Bingo for
many years. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family
and friends.
