Elaine Marjorie Bierhaus

Elaine Marjorie Bierhaus, 82, of Grand Island died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Tiffany Square.

Services will be 10:30, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island.   The Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate.  Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Elaine Bierhaus was born April 26, 1927 to Fred and Clara Bartels near Campbell, Nebraska, where she grew up.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Campbell.  She attended Dist. #48 Rural Elementary and graduated from Campbell High School in 1944.  She then taught school for three years in Webster County.

Elaine was united in marriage to Donald E. Bierhaus on August 14, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Campbell, Nebraska.  The couple lived in Campbell until June of 1966 when they moved to Grand Island. Her husband was employed by Sperry New Holland. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in August of 1997.  Don passed away on May 11, 1999. 

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Grand Island, Platt-Duetsche Ladies Card Club, Purple Heart Auxiliary Unit # 632, Liederkranz, Shriners Marathon and several other card groups and an honorary member of the Sweet Arts Cake Club.

Elaine was guardian for her granddaughter, Tina and was known as “Grandma B” at Mosaic Group Home in Grand Island. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cake decorating and making mints. She attended many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. She was also a Lenox collector.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Patricia Bierhaus of Grand Island and Lee and Karen Bierhaus of Lander, WY; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Terry Ottman of Grand Island and Sheila Wieland of Hastings; nine grand-children; 11 great-grandchildren;  five great great-grandchildren;  sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Bob L’Heureux of Campbell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Elaine Bartels of Blue Hill and Ron and Linda Bartels of Inavale, NE; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Milford and Lucetta Bierhaus and sister-in-law, Velma Mattison, all of Campbell; sisters-in-laws, Alta Henk of Beloit, KS, Helen Anderson of Holdrege and Evelyn Bierhaus of Lincoln, as well as, many other nieces, nephews, loved family members and special friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter-in-law, Lynda Bierhaus; granddaughter, Cheryl Guerrero, and her parents.

Memorials are suggested to Mosaic of Grand Island or Grace Lutheran Church.
