Esther M. Frauen

Esther M. Frauen, 90, of Grand Island, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Tiffany Square.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms.  The Reverend Craig Niemeier will officiate.  Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms.  All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.

Mrs. Frauen was born January 7, 1920 on a family farm in Merrick County, the daughter of Karl Ludwig and Dorothea Maria (Peters) Kurz.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herman C. Frauen on March 6, 1978.

Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Larry Kelly of Grand Island, Karen and Les Schimmer of Grand Island and Myra and Larry McCoig of Columbia, MO; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Evelyn Kurz of St. Libory and Walter and Janice Kurz of Palmer; sisters and brother-in-law, Lorraine Liebhart of Grand Island, Irene Kurz of Grand Island and Ruth and Roy Peters of Grand Island and sister-in-law, Georgina Frauen of Chapman.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren and their spouses, Angela and Daniel Lau, Amy and Jeffery Cuba, Andrew and Tracy Kelly, Jeffrey and Cindy Schimmer, Traci and Erin Romans, Tyson and Annette Schimmer, Jonathan and Beth Frauen, Jami and Deon Thone, Jill and David Hicks and Dr. Amber McCoig-Cramer and her husband Jeff and 18 great grandchildren. 

She was welcomed into heaven by her husband; son, Ron Frauen and her parents.

Esther was raised on the family farm and received her education at Zion Lutheran School.  Her mother died when Esther was two years old and she was raised by her father and step mother, Martha. 

She lived and worked in California for two years before returning home to marry Herman C. Frauen on August 10, 1941 at Worms.  They farmed near Grand Island.

Esther loved gardening, canning, sewing, embroidering, cooking and taking care of her family.  Each grandchild is blessed to have a quilt made by Grandma.  She is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Dorcas Ladies Aid, Platt Duetsche and Liederkranz Ladies and was an original board member for Northwest School District.  She was a junior farm hand 4-H leader.  Her memory will be treasured by many.
