J. Frear
Shirley J. Frear, 75, of Grand Island, died Friday, February 19, 2010
surrounded by her loving family.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010
at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand
Island. Mr. Steve Shanno will officiate. Burial
will be in the Grand
Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.
Mrs. Frear was born January 29, 1935 at Beaver City, NE the daughter of Clifford and Beryl (Gobel)
Strickland.
Her husband Jim Frear preceded her in death on September
6, 2009.
Survivors are daughters and son-in-law, Janet Frear of
Grand Island and Pamela Frear-Otalora and husband Edgar of Germany;
sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Frear of Grand Island, Roger and
Jackie Frear of Savannah, MO, Kenneth and Nancy Frear of Sioux Falls,
SD and Rod and Trina Frear of Malmo, NE and sister, Betty Warner
of Beaver City, NE.
Other
survivors are nine grandchildren and Shirley was soon to be blessed
with one great-grandchild. In addition to
her husband, she was welcomed into heaven by her parents and brother,
Clifford Strickland, Jr.
Shirley was raised on a family farm near Beaver City graduating
from Beaver City High
School, class of 1952. Following
high school she worked for Northwestern Bell at Oxford. She was united
in marriage to James A. Frear on August 2, 1953 at Beaver City. They lived in Oxford, Aurora and Lexington, Nebraska before
moving to Grand Island in
1985. While living in Lexington she was employed
by Reach Electronics.
Shirley
was an accomplished pianist and avid golfer. She
loved to travel and with her husband enjoyed their retirement. She
was passionate about Husker sports, especially football. Most
of all, Shirley enjoyed caring for her family.
