Harold Anthony Freese

Harold Anthony Freese, 85, of Grand Island, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at his residence. 

Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 14 th at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Reverend Jack Gillam will officiate.  Burial of ashes will be at 9:30 A.M., prior to the service at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 P.M., Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Harold was born on January 23, 1925 at St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Louis and Clara (Wissman) Freese.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Anne and Jeff Kellogg of Mission, TX and Janet Jeane and Reverend Reed Stockman of Monticello, IA.

He is also survived by two grandsons, Justin Anthony Kellogg and Dillon Stockman; and a special friend, Marjorie Johnson.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Jeane Freese on March 26, 2007; his parents; and a sister, Mary Jane Jamieson.

Harold grew up at St. Louis, graduating from Beaumont High School, class of 1942.  He enlisted in the US Navy on April 30, 1943, serving during WWII.  While in the Navy, Harold became an instructor in the identification of tropical diseases.  He was assigned to the Amphibious Forces, US Navy, and appointed as Medical Technologist aboard an attack transport for duty in the Pacific.  He was honorably discharged on April 26, 1949. 

Harold was united in marriage to Marie Jeane Sittner on March 14, 1947, in Hastings.  Following their marriage, the couple lived in Lincoln and Hastings, moving to Grand Island in 1950.  Harold joined the Veterans Administration as a Medical Technologist in Lincoln, NE, later transferring to Grand Island VA.  He retired after 37 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Layman’s League and VFW.
